Working on confirming that soft is better

Congratulations to Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, who would be the first Hispanic to serve should she be confirmed by Congress. Currently a federal judge on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, Ms. Sotomayor has the distinction of being nominated for positions by both sitting Republican (Bush 41) and Democratic (Bill Clinton and now Barack Obama) presidents. She would replace outgoing Justice David Souter (we would have linked to supremecourtus.gov, but they are overly PDF-happy; UPDATE: we’re not the only ones who think the site could use some work) on the bench of the highest court in the land.

Biography Resource Center has a few brief biographies of Sotomayor from Carroll’s and Marquis Who’s Who; we’re currently whipping up a longer-form piece as befitting a member of SCOTUS. (We have six narrative bios for Souter, including two from Lives & Perspectives Collection.)

We do humbly request that Justice Sotomayor add another T to her name, as any judge whose nombre implies sotto voce is an instant vote in our book. Although, in truth, “better thicket” isn’t bad, either.
