Hot gravediggity dog: RIP Oscar G. Mayer, Jr.

Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

Oscar G. Mayer, the grandson of the founder of the bologna-and-other-assorted-meats company, has passed away. He was 95 years old. (He is not Oscar Mayer II because his middle name was Gottfried — his granduncle’s first name — while his grandfather’s was Ferdinand.) We accidentally ate some of his bacon last week and were surprised at its crispity-cholesteroly deliciousness.

We have an entry from Almanac on Famous People on Mayer, as well as two biographies on his father and two on his grandfather.

(By the way, we think it’s really cool that Kraft has a section on the Oscar Mayer Web site to refute hoaxes and rumors about the company and its products. It might inspire us to do the same, given the rampant falsehoods circulating about Biography Resource Center thanks to our frenemies.)
